Dressmaking courses

Make a garment of your own choice that will enable you to improve your dressmaking techniques. Start with pattern adjustments and preparation, cutting and then sewing your garment together.  You will learn all methods needed to create your garment from transferring pattern markings, making full use of the pattern instructions through to learning useful ways of getting a professional finish.  Additional demonstrations of specific techniques such as inserting a concealed zip and applying facings will be included throughout the course.  Some basic experience in using a sewing machine is needed for these classes.  Separate tuition can be arranged for this if needed.

General Information

  1. Unless otherwise stated, you will need to provide your own patterns and fabrics for making your garments.  Advice on this will be given on booking.

  2. We now have sewing machines available for you to use.  You are also welcome to bring your own machine (especially if you are learning how to use it) which must be in good working order.   If your machine is over 1 year old it will need to be PAT tested (call for advice on how to do this - it does not cost much).

  3. Refreshments are provided but if booking for a day course you will need to bring a packed lunch.
